Wingfield Estate & Romney Manor

After our stops at Fairview Great House and Brimstone Hill Fortress, it was time for the last stop of the day on our tour of St Kitts - Wingfield Estate & Romney Manor! The site is nestled in the rainforest along the Wingfield River. It's green and beautiful, and there are are beautiful flowers and other plants everywhere. Brooke and I were excited to explore!
It was lovely to be among all the plants. It was a very hot day and Brooke and I were happy to wander from shade tree to shade tree.
See the chimney rising on the left side of this photo? That's from the rum distillery that used to operate at Wingfield estate, beginning in the early 1600s! It was buried for a long time and only uncovered in 2013. That means it's in great condition; in fact, it's the oldest complete rum distillery in the Caribbean!
Caribelle Batik, a batik cloth workshop, also operates on the grounds of the Romney Manor. There are colorful cloths drying all over the area; they're so beautiful! Brooke and I enjoyed running in and out of the cloth as it dried in the warm air.
I wish I could tell you more about the beautiful plant life at Wingfield Estate & Romney Manor. I loved the red stamens on this beautiful plant. My shirt is pretty bright, but it looked faded next to the intense red of the plant.
Some of the plants had explanatory signs nearby, like these bromeliads. Brooke and I had learned that bromeliads can hold little pools of water; they're the perfect spot for tadpoles to grow!
Like at Fairview Great House, there are fountains and streams at Wingfield Estate & Romney Manor. The water features make you feel a bit cooler in the heat of the day. Brooke and I liked the flamingo statues in front of this fountain!
After an hour or so, it was time to board the minibus for the ride back to the Disney Wonder. We posed at this little arch at the Port of St Kitts before we boarded the Wonder and set sail. I loved visiting St Kitts. Brooke did too! It was amazing to visit an island with so many unique things to see.
Have you ever been to St Kitts or Nevis?
