Our last day in Paris was awesome! I decided to be a silly tourist again and wore this Paris-themed shirt that my friend Sabine gave me. Though she is French, Sabine is actually from Lille, a city in northern France. She's in college and really cool. I'm always tickled that she doesn't mind spending time with me when she's in New York City. Anyway, our next destination was also on the River Seine, so we took a bus from Montmartre. Even though taking the Métro is much faster, I loved riding the bus in Paris because it meant I could see the city through the windows!
Before long, we got off the bus at the Pont Notre Dame (Notre Dame bridge). We were headed to Notre Dame de Paris, a beautiful cathedral. Before we walked over to the cathedral, we went to a bookshop and a stationery shop- two favorite types of shop in my family! We bought postcards to send to friends. Then, we walked south across the bridge, past the flower market, to the Place Jean Paul II in front of the cathedral! Behind me, you can see the beautiful rose/ wheel window on the Cathedral. Isn't it gorgeous? The stained glass is so beautiful. Notre Dame is also a site in the movie Amélie, continuing with the theme of our wanderings.
There was a long line to go inside the cathedral, so we decided to walk around the outside instead. The next time we go to Paris, we decided, we would take a longer trip. However, we had to catch a train back to London that afternoon.
Notre Dame is a gorgeous building. I love all the beautiful architectural details. I have a really cool picture book by David Macaulay, called Cathedral, about how European cathedrals were constructed. I recommend it!
After we walked around the cathedral itself, we wandered through the neighborhood. We visited Shakespeare & Co, a famous English-language bookshop, where we had lemonade and wrote postcards. It was a really nice afternoon. Before long, it was time to head back to Gare du Nord and leave for London.
That night, we reconsolidated our luggage (we only took backpacks to Paris). The next day, my family flew back to New York City. My European adventure had come to an end. I was lucky to do so many things! I visited Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Scotland, England, and France. Wow! It was an awesome trip and I'm so glad I got to experience it.

I'm so glad you got to visit Notre Dame before that horrible fire happened. I was there many years ago, and I'm sure Paris has changed drastically since then, but the memories will always be there.
