November Afternoon in Manhattan
Thursday, November 18, 2010
This afternoon was warm and grey. I had Nutcracker rehearsal all afternoon. Sophie decided to come into Manhattan with me. While I was dancing, Sophie took a walk through Central Park and looked all the beautiful fall leaves.
We agreed to meet at the stage door of the Koch Theatre- that's where the NYC Ballet performs. I pretended I was a famous ballerina coming out to meet my fans. I saw Sophie coming up Columbus Avenue, so I waved until she saw me.
Sophie and I sat by the stage door, talking about our day. This was Sophie's first time at Lincoln Center, but Sophie is very familiar with the world of fine arts. Her mother was a prima ballerina and she takes Sophie to see the Paris Opera Ballet all the time. Sophie told me that her mother performed at Lincoln Center many times when she was young. I was really impressed!
I took this photo of Sophie in front of the fountain on Lincoln Center Plaza. Doesn't she look cosmopolitan?
Here we are in front of the New York Philharmonic! I was really pleased that Sophie came into the city to meet me. We walked around the plaza for a while, hoping we might see a famous dancer or opera singer. (We didn't.) Then, we walked to the subway and headed home. It was just another day in New York!

ReplyDeleteInky!
ReplyDeleteThat was a really fun afternoon, even if I am a little homesick for Maman and my twin sister, Juliette, now. Of course, I got to thinking about it - if Juliette ever comes to the US, you two should meet. She's as crazy about ballet as you are. :)
Don't even get me started on that wonderful outfit! Thank you so much for letting me wear it. It reminds me of my wardrobe back at home - that, of course, I didn't bring with me. My wardrobe in Va. is pretty pitiful.
