Happy Earth Day!
Thursday, April 22, 2010
Happy Earth Day everyone! For me, Earth Day is special because it falls right in the middle of National Parks Week- and everyone knows I'm a big fan of the National Park Service! This week, until Sunday, April 25, entrance fees to all National Parks are free! If you live near a National Park, you should take advantage of the celebration and go check one out.
The cherry trees in New York City are in full bloom right now, so everything looks like a fairyland filled with pink and white blossoms. Today was Take Your Kids to Work Day, so I joined my Mama at her work. Her office has a cherry tree in front, so I got to climb it and play with all the other kids. Did any of you go to work with your parents today? It was a fun treat to see where my Mama works, but I'm glad I'm a kid and don't have to go to work!
My special Earth Day outfit comes from etsy seller MissSissy. Isn't it lovely? It's a dress, but I had it shortened to tunic length, paired it with some grey leggings, and used a red sash instead of the blue one it comes with. I love the way the fabric is covered in trees and birds.
I am starting a new project for homeschooling- an animal journal! Every week, I will study a different animal, then draw and write about it in my journal. I'm having fun brainstorming animals to do. Could you guys do me a favor? List some of your favorite animals to help me get started. I'm thinking meerkats, fennec foxes, and red pandas will be some of my first choices.
Happy Earth Day everyone! Thanks for taking care of our Mother Earth with me!

Ohhh, that sounds like fun, you will have to check out wolverines and silver fox from Alaska, and of course the best animal in the world, Polarbears. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI agree meerkats and red pandas are kewl too, I will have to look up the fennec foxes because I have never even heard of them before.
Sounds like you had fun going to work with your mom too .. climbing trees is so much fun .. talk to you laters,
Ta Ta,

i love your dress!
ReplyDeleteInky- I love exotic animals too. Wouldn't it be fun to go on a photography safari to Africa and take lots of pictures of the animals there? You might want to study an animal that lives in your neighborhood like the gray squirrel. Then you can do a live study and write down exactly what the squirrels do just like a real biologist. I actually really love to watch squirrels, especially because they are the most abundant wild animal around where I live, and they are so cute. Tupper
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day, Inky! You look really pretty in that dress. The colours are perfect for you! And your Mama's workplace is lovely.
ReplyDeleteAs far as animals, what about a python?

Happy Earth Day to you, too! Guess what, I'm starting a journal, too. I'm keeping track of how much rain we get and I'm writing about the birds that are nesting on our back deck. They are Says' Phoebes (a type of fly catcher) and a pair of House Finches. I'm blogging about that, too. Fun!!!

I'm glad you had a good Earth Day/Take your Kid to Work Day! :D Beautiful pictures, and I love your outfit.
ReplyDeleteInky - I love your top! I have a skirt made from that same fabric!
ReplyDeleteI love sea otters and turtles. You should do them in your book!
Hi Inky!
ReplyDeleteI've posted comments on here a couple of times, but I never introduced myself. My name's Mia and I've been blogging for about a year. I really enjoy reading your blog!
What a cute dress! You look cute in anything, I think.
My mama is homeschooled just like you! She just did a report on the Canadian Lynx, an endangered animal. Your school reports sound fun!
Mia♥
Hm...we went to see Disney Oceans on Earth Day, so I suggest some sea animals. What about manatees? Some of the cool crabs? Orcas? Penguins? My faves are dolphins, otters (LOVE LOVE LOVE them) and sea turtles.

Hi Inky, Happy Belated Earth Day! Life's been a little nuts around here, so I haven't gotten much time to blog. I hope you photograph and post some of the animals you write about in your journal. Here are some of my ideas: coyotes, jackrabbits, kangaroo rats, river otters, big horn sheep, coati, mountain lions. If you're considering more than mammals: spadefoot toads, rattlesnakes, horned lizard, and gila monsters.
ReplyDeleteYes we do have a lot in common. Even if we aren't biologically related, we could be related in spirit.
Oh, my mama made my jumper for me from a modified Liberty Jane pattern.
hugs,
Karma
PS: If you haven't yet, you should read "Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport". It's a great picture book that you'll totally get, living in NYC and visiting NM.
Inky,
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get what you are wearing???!!!! It is adorable along with everything else you wear. Please reply!
