Meet My Friends: Iris

Iris's new hat!

Do you recognize this face? It's my friend Iris! I'm finally starting my series on my friends near and far.  Iris is one of my oldest friends so I knew she needed to be first.

Iris and I met in 2006, back when I lived in Wisconsin.   We went to the same ballet school.  In fact, Iris even lived with me for a few months after I moved to New York City! She has a really cute dog- a chihuahua named Mulder! Mulder came to live with my family as well.

After we had settled into New York City life, Iris moved to England! She was a student at a prestigious ballet school that required her to live on the campus. I really missed her, but she did come back to visit occasionally.

During Iris's time in England, we e-mailed and chatted all the time, often about our ballet studies. However, I decided to stop dancing because it was too stressful for me. Imagine my surprise when Iris also stopped dancing! She has some issues with her hearing that were making it more and more difficult to hear music.  She was devastated.  Iris is an amazing dancer- definitely the best in our school back in Wisconsin! That's why she was picked to attend ballet boarding school in the UK.

Iris!

So now Iris is living with her family again, back in the United States. They live in NYC now too, so I've gotten to see Iris much more often.  I know she is facing a lot of heartache over having to leave ballet school, so I am actively working to be the best friend that I can be to her.

Hmm, what else can I tell you about Iris? She loves stuffed animals, Thai food (especially pad see euw and massaman curry!), and being silly with her friends. Her hero is Misty Copeland, the ballerina. She loves dogs, especially little ones!

I'm so happy to have Iris as a friend. She is my oldest friend, since she has known me since I lived in Wisconsin- even before I met Violet (who I will introduce soon).

Who is your oldest friend? What are they like? Tell me! :)

  1. Hello Inky! It's so nice of you to feature Iris. She looks like such a nice friend. My best friend is named Olivia-Grace Beauregard and I have known her since we were 7. I met her at a summer camp and we have been best friends ever since. It's quite difficult talking to her because she lives all the way in Paris and I live in NYC. But we do keep in touch through snail mail! On a side note, my mama loves Thai food, especially massaman curry :).

    1. Hi Emily!
Iris is a really nice friend and I'm sure Olivia-Grace is too. Wow, that's so cool that she lives in Paris! I have been to the Paris airport twice, but that's it. I'm glad your mama likes massaman curry; it's delicious! Do you like it too?

  2. My oldest friend is Samantha. She and I have the same name so my family calls me Sammy. Samantha likes puttering in the flower gardens with Mom. She also feeds the birds and sets out treats for the squirrels and bunnies.
I like Thai food, especially pad thai. Chinese is my favorite food; I could eat sushi with ginger and wasabi for every meal!
My friend, Hattie, wants to know how Iris got her hair like that. She would like her hair that way. I'm glad your friend lives close to you again. Please send her greetings from Sammy and her family.

    1. Hello! Pad thai is delicious! Samantha sounds really sweet. Does Hattie want to know about Iris's braids or her curls? Iris's hair is naturally curly, but she likes to braid it sometimes.
