Year of the Sheep!

Lunar New Year: Year of the Sheep (2015)

Hello my friends! This Thursday there is a very special holiday- Lunar New Year! This year is the Year of the Sheep (or Goat). One of my favorite Lunar New Year traditions is making cards for my friends.

Here are my supplies.  I use red cardstock (red is a lucky color!), white labels, scissors, and gold and red pencils.  To decorate my cards, I use adorable pins with art by Joyce Wan of Wanart. I use her pins every year because they are so cute! Okay, are you ready to make cards with me?

The first thing to do is cut out cards from cardstock. I used a ruler to try to make sure they were the same size.  Even so, they were not perfect. Oh well!

Next, I put white labels on the cards.  You can make the cards without labels, but I like them because they make my name pop when I sign the cards.  I use Martha Stewart brand kitchen labels, which I bought at Staples.

The next step is putting the pins on the cards! The pins are so, so cute.  I love the little sheep. The pins are 1 inch wide and also have the Chinese character for sheep on them.  You don't have to use the same pins; use your creativity!

I carefully put my pins near the top of the card. Be very careful not to prick yourself with the pin. That could hurt!

Next, I use a gold pencil to write "HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!" on each card. There are lots of fun greetings for Lunar New Year; try using the internet to find some!

My last step is signing my name on the white label. Remember, you don't have to use a label if you don't want to! I wrote "Love, Inky" on each card using red pencil.

The cards are done! Ta da! Now I'll ask my moms to help me address envelopes and take them to the post office so that I can send the cards to my friends. Happy Lunar New Year my friends!! Happy Happy Year of the Sheep to you!
