Kayaking in Sabino Canyon

Kayaking in Sabino Canyon

On my last full day in Arizona, I went with Raven and our parents on a special day trip. We went to Sabino Canyon and rented kayaks! I had been waiting for this activity my entire trip and I was so happy our parents were able to make it happen. We started the day by taking a tram up Sabino Canyon and getting off at a secluded section of the creek.

Raven and I had been watching the kayak events in the Olympics, so we were very excited to try the sport for ourselves. We put on our lifejackets and got right into the water.

It was so cool! I loved floating down the creek and over the tiny waterfalls. We were beginners, so we only went on the lazier parts of the creek, but it was still very exciting and fun.

As we navigated down the creek, I imagined being an adventurer exploring the wildest of jungle rivers, avoiding crocodiles and jaguars. Someday, I would love to go camping with the kayaks; I think that would be so cool.

It was so much fun experiencing Sabino Canyon with Raven. She was very determined and was excellent at navigating between the rocks. She's only ten, so she still has a chance to get really good and compete in the Olympics someday!

Kayaking in Sabino Canyon Kayaking in Sabino Canyon is probably my favorite memory of my whole summer. As Raven and I packed up our paddles and life jackets, I thought how, that time the next day, I would be back in New York City and far from the desert, mountains, and cool streams. Even though I'm homeschooled, I don't do much schoolwork in the summers. I could feel the school year looming ahead and felt sad that my magical Arizona summer was ending. Do you ever feel sad at the end of the summer? What were your favorite summer memories this year?

In this entry I'm wearing: 2012 Sporty Sandals by American Girl, 2010 2-in-1 Surf Swimsuit for Dolls by American Girl, lifejacket from 2009 Kayak and Gear by American Girl.

My mom and I do something similar a couple of times a month. We rent paddle boats at Shelby Farms! Is kayaking scary? I've heard a lot of people say it is.

My favorite memory of the summer was meeting my Korean step-sister, Hyun-Ae for the first time!
