Hodel in Times Square

My friend Hodel has been enjoying her time here in New York City.  A few days ago, we decided to explore Manhattan a bit.

Hodel in NYC

We started out on the Lower East Side, where we stopped by my favorite deli to get egg creams. I took a photo of Hodel in front of this pretty mural. Doesn't Hodel look lovely?

We walked up 2nd Ave to St Mark's Place, and then walked along St. Mark's to get to the 6 train at Astor Place. Of course, Hodel had to have a photo in the subway! I remembered how excited I was to visit the subway on my first trip to New York. Even now, it is exciting to ride it!

After switching trains at Grand Central Station, we made it to Times Square! Hodel wanted to have her photo taken in front of a giant lit-up flag. Both of us are originally from the former Soviet Union and have begun new lives in the United States.

Hodel was so excited to see the lights of Times Square! I had to admit, it was pretty fun to see all the different kinds of people in one place. Of course, we stopped by the big Toys R Us store to look at the Ferris Wheel.

Hodel got to pose for a photo for one of New York's Finest- a member of the NYPD! He was very nice.

Hodel was so excited to see the Mary Poppins theatre! We didn't see a show, because all the theatres are closed on Monday nights, but I took her photo outside anyway.

Finally, it was time to go back to my house. There was time for one last photo, so Hodel posed in front of the sparkling Subway sign. It's so cool! I wish we had one in my neighborhood.

Even though we didn't stay in Times Square very late, Hodel and I both had fun. If you came to visit New York City, what would you want to see? Where should I take Hodel next?

  1. Hey Inky,

Ooh, take her to Jamaica Bay! I know she'd love that! Maybe take her to the zoo and show her your beloved red panda friends? Maybe she'd like to go to Lincoln Center? I loved seeing the fountain there, and I know must've - I'm still using the photos in my blog header!

If I came to New York again, I'd love to see you. I miss you quite a lot! I wish I could *now* because I'd love to finally meet Hodel. She visited my school while I was out traveling myself, so we missed each other. :(

  2. Hi Inky,

Wow, I don't remember reading an entry in your blog w/o your picture on it. But Hodel did look pretty. I'm from NY myself and there is a lot to see. Has she seen the Museum of Natural History yet? Or maybe something fun like Dave and Buster's? Or even the AG Place to see Caroline Abbott?

  3. We loved Central Park. We only lived in Morningside Heights for 7 weeks, but loved every minutes of it. The turtle Pond is a favorite, Literary walk, the toy boat pond, the Lake by the Boathouse, Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, the wisteria covered tunnel before you get to Strawberry Fields... all of it. Alice in Wonderland Statue.... We also liked the Natural HIstory Museum and the MMA. We went to Riverside park almost every day. We went to AG 3 times. We got Bitty Baby clothes and fun things to play with. When we got home, we ordered Kit. It was a wonderful visit. Have you ever been to Molly's Bakery? Our cousin works there. We missed Serendipity. Do the frozen hot chocolates taste as good as everyone says? We can't wait to live there again.
