Friday night Nutcracker

Inky at the Nutcracker

One of the sad things about performing in The Nutcracker is that I don't usually get a chance to see the entire performance.  This year, my moms decided to take me when the other cast was dancing.  I dressed up in my favorite silver theater dress and off we went to Lincoln Center.  This isn't the best picture, because it was dark outside, but here I am in front of the famous fountain on Lincoln Center Plaza.

After we had our tickets scanned, we headed up to the atrium. Just off the atrium, you can go on a lovely balcony that overlooks the plaza. You can watch everyone going into all the different theatres. I forgot to take a picture, but there is a huge Christmas tree at the Metropolitan Opera House that is almost as tall as the building! Everyone said it was chilly, but I insisted I was fine in my little white shrug. I love my winter coat, but it's just not the right style for the ballet!

During intermission, I walked around the atrium in my beautiful dress. The theatre is so big and beautiful. The first act went beautifully. One of my favorite dancers, Likolani Brown, was one of the dolls in the party scene. The battle scene between the mice and soldiers was awesome! I am thinking of auditioning to be a soldier next year.

All too soon the second act came to an end and Marie and her Little Prince were flying away in their sleigh. I love going to the ballet so much. I know the music to The Nutcracker so well that it's almost a part of me. I'm happy that I got a chance to see the entire performance from the audience.

Did any of you go see The Nutcracker in your city? I know Kaya and Fiona danced in their local Nutcracker- and Fiona was Clara! Some companies call the main character Clara and others call her Marie. Which name do you prefer?

  1. I like the name Clara. I don't know why, I just do. By the way, The Nutcracker was the first performance I ever went to. I still remember that day and I still have all the nutcrackers I got there!

  3. We love Clara personally, but then that was how we learned the nutcracker story to love. You are so lucky to have the opportunity to go and enjoy the performances, we did not have one anywhere to see this year.

Cannot wait to meet you this spring Inky, it is going to be soooooo fun.

    Hugs,
    Taryn

  4. Bonsoir, Inky!
I'm glad the ballet was great! Your dress is gorgeous. I would love to have a dress like that.
The last time I have seen the Nutcracker was back in Lille when my sister was in it. Caitlin saw a performance in Pittsburgh last year, and she thought it was great. She also saw the Rockettes and thought they were neat. It's so different than classical ballet...

Thanks for the shoutout, by the way. ;-)

Have your performances been going well?

We had our last one tonight, and we're trying to decide if we're still awake enough to blog about it or whether to do it tomorrow.

    Love,
    Kaya
